RANCHI: The execution of Parliament attack mastermind Afzal Guru on Saturday has opened up the cases of four convicts in Birsa Munda Central Jail here whose death sentences are upheld by the Jharkhand high court.
In one case, the mercy petition of a convict is pending with the President.
The four convicts are Alber Oraon, Ajay Pal and brothers Mofil Khan and Mobarak Khan, sources in the jail said.
Mofil and Mobarak killed their brother Hanif Khan, his wife Kasmun Biwi, and six sons, Pale, Ibran, Danish, Yusuf, Meharban, and Anis on June 6, 2007.
The incident at Makandu village in Kuru in Lohardaga district. The duo was convicted and given capital punishment by a Lohardaga court in 2009.
Oraon was convicted by the district court of Lohardaga in 2010. He had killed three members of a family of late Dilip Munda, an ex-serviceman in 2008.
The victims were his wife Pushpa Munda, daughter Dipika, and son Sudarshan. They lived at Kutmu on Court-Kutmu road, barely 500 metres from the Lohardaga district headquarters.
After their killing, Oraon buried them on a gorge in front of their house. Their bodies were recovered on December 15, 2008.
A special CBI court in 2007 awarded death sentence to Ajay Pal, the servant of Dhirendra Kumar, an Indian Forest Service officer, for killing five people, including the officer's wife, in June 2003. Pal, a resident of Purulia in West Bengal, had murdered Kumar's wife Amita, his sons and a relative's daughter and a servant.
Jail superintendent D K Pradhan said there were six convicts of capital punishment. Of them, two got reprieve from the judiciary.
"Now there are four who are facing death sentence. Pal's mercy petition is pending with the President. The appeal of other three is pending in the Supreme Court," said Pradhan. |
